Question:
I read “ANSI/AGMA 6135-A02: Design, Rating and Application of Industrial Globoidal Wormgearing.” I didn’t find the calculation method about the backlash of the globoidal wormgear in the standard. Could you give me the calculation method of that?
AGMA’s Response:
Clause 3.5.1 of ANSI/AGMA 6135-A02 discusses the subject of backlash. There it states”
“Each manufacturer specifies the backlash ranges for their various product lines and generally includes this information in the product catalog.”
Additionally, the recently published ANSI/AGMA 2002-C16, “Tooth Thickness and Backlash Measurement of Cylindrical Involute Gearing” includes a section on the calculation of backlash which covers involute worms and can be used to calculate the required backlash for a specific application.
In regards to your second question “What’s the calculation method for strength of the globoidal wormgear (worm shaft & worm wheel)”, please note that AGMA does not currently have any recommendations for calculating these values and we are unaware of any published information on this subject.
